County to Release Recovery Strategic Plan

County to Release Recovery Strategic Plan

Santa Barbara County is preparing to release a strategic plan detailing short- to long-term recovery steps following the Thomas Fire and 1/9 Debris Flow. A draft of the plan will be discussed at an upcoming community informational meeting of the Montecito Association on May 23 before it is presented to the Board of Supervisors for consideration on June 5.

The “Santa Barbara County Thomas Fire & 1/9 Debris Flow Disaster Recovery Strategic Plan” outlines the County’s planned courses of action in areas such as storm preparation and evacuation, long-term flood mitigation, private property rebuilding and debris on private property. Residents may review the plan and provide input at the Montecito Association meeting May 23 at 5 p.m. at the Cold Spring School Auditorium, 2243 Sycamore Canyon Road.

Matt Pontes, assistant County executive officer and director of recovery efforts stated, “This plan will guide the actions of our local government in identified key areas for recovery. The plan provides for coordination with other agencies providing support to our impacted community, residents and businesses.”

Other topics to be discussed at the community meeting on May 23 include elements of the newly-approved Like-For-Like Ordinance and proposed hazard mitigation projects.
