Tsunami Advisory Issued for Santa Barbara County was lifted at 12:40AM on January 16, 2022.

UPDATE January 15, 2022 at 5:11PM

The Tsunami Advisory issued at 7AM is still in effect for the Santa Barbara County coastline. Santa Barbara County is still recording wave heights above tsunami advisory level and the tsunami advisory will remain in effect until at least 3 hours after surges fall below advisory level.  Please continue to avoid beach areas as strong currents and moving waters can be life threatening. Piers, harbors, and coastal areas may be damaged.  Visit http://www.tsunami.gov for more information.

UPDATE January 15, 2022 at 10:55AM

The situation is ongoing and the Tsunami Advisory is still in effect and will remain so until the National Tsunami Warning Center declares that there is no more danger for the Santa Barbara County Coasts. This is estimated as approximately 3 hours after experts determine that tides are back to normal levels. Damage has occurred in neighboring counties. Community members are urged to stay away from beach areas until the Tsunami Advisory has been lifted.

 

The National Tsunami Warning Center has issued a Tsunami Advisory for the Santa Barbara County coast. This notification is an ADVISORY ONLY – YOU DO NOT NEED TO EVACUATE. A Tsunami Advisory means that a tsunami is expected or occurring and may produce strong currents or waves dangerous to those in or near the immediate coastline. Stay away from beaches and waterways. This threat may continue for several hours after the arrival of the initial wave, however widespread inundation is not expected. More information at https://tsunami.gov/.

El Centro Nacional de Alertas de Tsunami ha emitido un Aviso de Tsunami. Esta notificación es SOLAMENTE UN AVISO – NO NECESITAS EVACUAR. Un aviso de tsunami significa que un tsunami potencial puede producir fuertes corrientes u olas peligrosas para aquellos en o cerca de la costa inmediata.
