May 1 Community Meeting to Focus on Thomas Fire Watershed Status and Potential for Future Debris Flows

FEMA Flood Hazard Mapping Project Update Also on Agenda

Watershed impacts resulting from the Thomas Fire and the potential for future debris flows is the main subject of a May 1 community meeting. It will take place in the County Administration Building, 105 E. Anapamu St., in the Fourth Floor Hearing room (in downtown Santa Barbara). Parking is available in the Granada Garage on Anacapa Street in between Victoria and Anapamu streets.

Representatives of the U.S. Forest Service Burn Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team and the CAL FIRE Watershed Emergency Response Team (WERT) will present on watershed impact findings. The County and partner agencies will use these findings and an array of other resources to plan for potential future rain-driven events that may be dangerous due to the post-fire conditions of local watersheds.

Attendees will also learn about the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) process for developing new flood hazard maps which are due to be released in June and how they inform the County’s Planning and Development land use rebuilding process, as well as information about national flood insurance.
